Reducing your footprint

The Tarkine is a beautiful, wild, and sacred area and we want you to discover and explore it but we also want you to leave it unaffected by your presence... a sustainable tourism approach.

your carbon footprint is the measure of the impact your activities have on the environment

When you visit the Tarkine please help to keep this place special by adhering to the following rules:

- Protect the wildlife. (remember, plants and animals are protected, so try not to trample plants when you are erecting your tent or walking).
- Be careful with fire. (preferably use a fuel stove for cooking, and use fireplaces, where provided, not an open fire. Put the fire out with water when you leave your campsite).
- Leave no rubbish. (take your rubbish with you when you leave, don't bury it).
- Walk softly. (stay on the clearly marked and well formed tracks).
- Use toilets if provided. (if toilets are not provided, bury human waste well away from tracks and water bodies).
- Do not spread disease. (wash you footwear and equipment before walking in another area to avoid the spread of soil born disease).
- Protect creeks and lakes. (don't use soap, toothpaste or detergent in freshwater lakes or creeks, as they pollute the water. Apply sunscreen after your swim).
- Respect Indigenous culture. (rock art and other sites in the Tarkine represent thousands of years of living culture with special significance to Indigenous people. These sites are easily damaged and are irreplaceable. Look at them, enjoy them, but please do not touch or damage them).
